now playing

my officemate peachy finally got hold of Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo’ole’s version of the song "somewhere over the rainbow/what a wonderful world" (song playing at the end credits of the movies meet joe black and 50 first dates). i requested her to send it to me via bluetooth, and now, aside from it being a staple in my phone, currently is the most repeated song in my i-pod. (thanks peachy!!!)

aside from loving the movies where it was played, i’m partial to the song because what a wonderful world has sentimental value to me. it is a song that evokes happy thoughts: 1) it is roy’s favorite song of all time 2) the kenny g/louis armstrong version of the song was played during our wedding (on the part after the priest said "you may now kiss the bride") 3) it is the only song my kid brother julian can sing in full in our magic sing.

it’s amazing how one song can evoke so much emotion in our lives. things like that really make one realize that some profound joys can be found on little things, and some of the best things in life are really free.

(note: if you’re curious about the song, its the song playing in our montage roy and faye as time goes by in my friendster account.)
